Holcim pushes sustainable construction via global design contest and local journalism competition

Leading cement manufacturer Holcim Philippines, Inc. launched last Aug. 10 a journalism contest that will recognize outstanding efforts by college students and the print media to explain and discuss the benefits of sustainable construction.

This local initiative supports the on-going regional search, Holcim Award for Sustainable Construction, which the Switzerland-based Holcim Foundation has started this July. Now on its third cycle, the global competition recognizes projects and visions contributing to a more sustainable environment.

Holcim pushes sustainable construction via twin contests

Holcim Philippines Chief Operating Officer Roland van Wijnen discussed the five target issues of sustainable construction during the launch of the company’s journalism contest on the said topic last Aug. 10.

The contest aims to recognize outstanding efforts by college students and the print media to explain and discuss the benefits of sustainable construction, one of the Holcim Group’s main advocacies. Sustainable construction refers to the practice of building structures in environmentally and responsible manner that make efficient use of natural resources and also improve the community.

Republic, Lafarge partner with Concrete Aggregates Corporation

Officials of the consortium of Republic Cement Corporation and Lafarge Holdings (Philippines), Inc. recently inked a Memorandum of Agreement with Concrete Aggregates Corporation (CAC) for the consortium’s acquisition of aggregates assets and the operation of CAC’s basalt quarry in Angono, Rizal.
