Keeping people safe at work a priority for Holcim Philippines

The first thing that visitors notice when they go to a manufacturing facility of Holcim Philippines is how strictly the company implements its safety policies.

Plant visitors who need to go outside the administrative building are required to use “personal protective equipment” – hard hats, steel-toed boots and reflectorized shirts or vests. If they go to the manufacturing areas, they will also be asked to put on dust masks, goggles, gloves and something that looks like marshmallow candies but are actually ear plugs.

At the gate, all non-plant employees are given a safety manual and briefed on how to conduct themselves inside the facility. The reminders continue inside the plant, as signage after signage prompt them to stay alert.

CEMEX, Naga promote ‘Isang Milyong Sipilyo’
Program is on 19th year with 57T day care, elementary beneficiaries

CEMEX joined the Department of Health (DOH) in celebrating the Oral Health Month through its “Isang Milyong Sipilyo” program. 

The program aims to give one million dental kits to day care and elementary school students of the City of Naga, Cebu.

The activity, which was started by then Naga mayor, the late Ferdinand Chiong, is now on its 19th year, and with the continuous support of CEMEX and the leadership of incumbent Mayor Valdemar Chiong, 57,000 children have benefitted from the program.

Holcim La Union, DPWH join hands for road safety

As part of Holcim Philippines’s commitment to safety, its La Union plant recently partnered with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to install safety signs along the Manila North Road Highway.

The cement manufacturer tied up with DPWH Region 1 to set up 22 road safety signages in 12 municipalities along the said highway from Rosario to Sudipen, La Union.

Holcim La Union Plant Manager Andy White explained that the project is consistent with the high premium Holcim places on the safety of its own employees, contractors and other key stakeholders including families in host communities.
