Holcim WIWAG Scholar is a call center agent and budding entrepreneur

Mary Jean Alvarado is a 21-year old call center agent with dreams of a brighter future for her family.

That is why aside from her night-shift job; Mary Jean is also an entrepreneur by day. She makes handmade paper weights for a living.

One by one, she painstakingly carves out paper weights from marble stones. She also sculpts novelty items such as table displays or photo frames from the same medium. She plans to explore further on creating beauty from scrap materials and recycled items.

Cement makers help build copra dryers

PARANG, Maguindanao — Coconut farmers in at least nine towns in Mindanao and the Visayas are assured of higher income with title use of more efficient drying facilities built with the assistance of the cement industry, it was reported.

In a move that further concretized their corporate social-responsibility commitments, several members of the Cement Manufacturers Association of the Philippines (CeMAP) have offered to bankroll the cost of the cement com­ponents of eight copra-drying facilities to be constructed in collaboration with the Centro Saka Inc., an agriculture-based non-government organization.

Republic, Lafarge partner with Concrete Aggregates Corporation

Officials of the consortium of Republic Cement Corporation and Lafarge Holdings (Philippines), Inc. recently inked a Memorandum of Agreement with Concrete Aggregates Corporation (CAC) for the consortium’s acquisition of aggregates assets and the operation of CAC’s basalt quarry in Angono, Rizal.
