Some 30 employee volunteers from leading cement manufacturer Holcim Philippines, Inc., recently participated in the Brigada Eskwela, a Department of Education project to tap the private sector in helping prepare public school buildings for the opening of classes. Holcim also donated cement, as well as the services of its ‘galing Mason graduates to finish the construction of the feeding center.

The volunteers, who also included workers from member companies of the Philippine Business for Social Progress went to the Eddie T. Reyes Memorial Elementary School (ERMES) in Taguig to clean several classrooms, paint the feeding center, distribute school supplies and provide free haircuts to incoming students.

“The Brigada Eskwela project has given Holcim Philippines the opportunity to support a worthwhile endeavor while showcasing both the application of our products and the involvement of our employees. Volunteerism is very much a part of the Holcim culture,” said Michael V. Cabalda, Holcim Sustainable Development Manager. It was the second year in a row that Holcim employees participated in Brigada Eskwela.
