THIRTY-FIVE scholars of Taiheiyo Cement Philippines Inc. (TCPI) and Solid Earth Development Corp. (SEDC) had a very productive semestral break as they undertook a whole-day training on leadership development conducted by trainers from Junior Chamber International (JCI).

YOUTH LEADERS. The scholars of Taiheyo Cement and Solid Earth make a funny pose with their trainers from JCI Cebu-Mactan Channel as they concluded their whole-day course last Oct. 27, 2007 to become effective youthful leaders.

The training team of JCI Cebu-Mactan Channel led by incoming 2008 president JCI Member Jolex Yu Lim, PG, implemented the “Batang Lider” Course developed by JCI Philippines – National Training Commission for the 35 scholars now studying at Notre Dame Academy and national high schools of Magsico, Balud and Pitalo in San Fernando, Cebu.

The scholars, who are in 3 batches — now in 3rd year, 2nd year and 1st year levels, had a fun-filled, activity-oriented day last Oct. 27 at the TCPI conference hall. The activity was packed with learning about becoming effective leaders who can be sensitive, versatile, organizer, planner, facilitator, team builder and motivator.

The seven modules the JCI trainers conducted were presented as tools for the scholar-trainees to discover themselves, their peers and their styles, ways to handle projects and meetings, and means to understand how to create teams and motivate members. The trainers were headed by JCI Member Cerwin T. Eviota, a national graduate of JCI University, also PR consultant of TCPI.

TCPI and SEDC made the training possible for their scholars under their joint Social Development and Management Program (SDMP), the same program that maintains their scholarship program that is now on its third year of implementation.
