The activity was one of the undertakings under the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Program (EPEP) of the two firms, in cooperation with their own Social Development and Management Program (SDMP) group.

The seedlings included 155 jackfruits and 100 ilang-ilangs. The remaining seedlings were mango and lanzones.

SEDC’s Hideki Yanagita and Administration Manager Emylita Ortega joined the activity and worked side by side with Taiheiyo’s Community Development Officers, SDMP scholars and members of the SEDC survey group. Taiheiyo conducts tree planting activities every June to celebrate the Environment Month.

Prior to the June 30 tree planting activity, SEDC personnel and its quarry service contractors were able to plant 912 seedlings of various fruit and forest trees (jackfruit, lanzones, narra, mahogany, ilang-ilang, aurey) in mined-out and off-mine areas in barangays Bugho and Magsico in San Fernando.
