Barangay gets water system Residents get solution to water woes

SPIRIT OF COOPERATION. Residents of Barangay Panadtaran, San Fernando, Cebu help in the pipe and water pump-laying to improve the water system in their community.

IN response to a request from the Barangay Council of Barangay Panadtaran, San Fernando, Cebu, Taiheiyo Cement Philippines, Inc. (TCPI) has again extended helping hands to their community.

TCPI originally intended to create a livelihood project for the fishermen in the said barangay but also took note of the fact that lack of water has always been a problem for the residents.

Through a Barangay Resolution (No. 15) dated April 1, 2007, TCPI received a request for assistance from the Barangay Council of Panadtaran for the improvement of their existing water system before establishing a livelihood project.

The following months thereafter were then devoted to meetings with local leaders and TCPI’s engineers doing on-site inspections, laying out the plan, coming up with the work cost estimates and planning the work needed for the project.

The improvement work was started last September 2007 and was completed one month after.

With this, TCPI received another resolution from the Panadtaran Barangay Council who penned Barangay Resolution No. 35 also known as the “Resolution of Gratitude to Taiheiyo Cement Philippines, Inc. in Supporting the Panadtaran Water Work System” dated Nov. 18, 2007.

TCPI’s Community Development Officers and their material supplier Solid Earth Development Corporation (SEDC) took charge of the project which benefited the whole barangay and was accomplished in just one month, another proof of the benefits that corporate responsibility, unity and cooperation can bring.
