CeMAP honored with quality assurance award for raising cement safety standards

The Cement Manufacturers’ Association of the Philippines (CeMAP) received citations from the Bureau of Philippine Standards–UL Standards and Engagement (BPS-ULSE) for advancing industry standards and promoting consumer safety in the country’s cement sector.

CeMAP was honored with the “Industry Partnership for Quality Assurance” Award during the BPS-ULSE Stakeholders Recognition and Awarding Ceremony held on 14 October at Marquis Events Place in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

The event, organized by the Department of Trade and Industry–Bureau of Philippine Standards (BPS) in partnership with UL Standards and Engagement (ULSE), carried the theme “Collaboration in Motion: Driving Meaningful Change.”

The ceremony highlighted key partnerships between BPS and its stakeholders, recognizing their contributions to advancing standards, enhancing consumer protection, and promoting continuous improvement in the industry.

CeMAP’s Product Standards Committee (PSC) received the award on behalf of the association. The PSC plays a critical role in ensuring that cement products in the market are safe and high-quality by reviewing and updating product standards; collaborating with government agencies and private groups; helping develop Philippine National Standards (PNS) through active participation in DTI-BPS technical discussions; and conducting nationwide monitoring of cement brands through market sampling and compliance testing.

Ensuring cement conformity to PNS is crucial for construction safety and structural integrity. While the PNS is adapted from ASTM benchmarks, it is calibrated specifically for the Philippines’ unique geological conditions and climate.

“This recognition highlights CeMAP’s commitment to maintaining high standards and ensuring safe, quality cement for consumers,” CeMAP executive director Rey Baja said.

CeMAP is the official industry association of integrated cement manufacturers in the Philippines. It represents major players and advocates for sustainable development, fair competition, and national infrastructure progress. Founded in 1957, the group is among the country’s oldest nonprofit trade associations.
