CHEMICAL ANALYSIS BY WET METHOD

The basic analytical techniques used in the reference test methods of ASTM C114, Standard Test Methods for Chemical Analysis of Hydraulic Cement, include weighing using the analytical balance, heating using hotplates, digestion using water bath, filtration through medium-textured or retentive filter paper, titration using burettes, and ignition using muffle furnaces. Loss on ignition (LOI), insoluble residue (IR), Sulfur trioxide (SO3), Silicon dioxide (SiO2), Aluminum oxide (Al2O3) and Magnesium oxide (MgO) are quantitatively determined by gravimetry. Calcium oxide (CaO) and free lime (F-CaO) are determined by titrimetry. Each CTC test method specifies the type of glasswares, filter papers, and crucibles (Platinum and porcelain depending on the test parameter), as well as the purity of reagents to be used.
