The Cement Manufacturers Association of the Philippines (CeMAP) said that the Philippines has officially assumed the presidency of the ASEAN Federation of Cement Manufacturers (AFCM), the regional organization representing cement industry associations in Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
“The leadership transition was formalized during the 47th AFCM Council Meeting and 23rd AFCM Conference, held from October 14 to 16, 2026, in Bali, Indonesia. Industry leaders gathered to discuss the sector’s most pressing challenges and opportunities, including overcapacity, decarbonization, rising energy costs, and the long-term competitiveness of the ASEAN cement industry,” CEMAP said in a statement Wednesday (October 21).
In the meeting, CeMAP President John Reinier Dizon was elected AFCM President; Roberto Martin Gerardo Javier, Commercial Vice President of Concreat Holdings Philippines, was elected AFCM Secretary General; while Renato Baja, CeMAP executive director, was elected AFCM Deputy Secretary General.
The new AFCM leadership will serve until 2026–2028.
As the AFCM leadership transitions to the Philippines, Dizon emphasized the importance of responsible leadership and stewardship in ensuring the industry’s long-term sustainability.
“We are caretakers of this industry. Our responsibility is to leave it better for future generations” he said.
Under the Philippine leadership, Dizon said, the AFCM will continue advancing its regional agenda on decarbonization, including the wider adoption of low-carbon cement, alternative fuels, supplementary cementitious materials, energy-efficient technologies and business development. These initiatives have been essential to reducing the industry’s environmental footprint while maintaining its capacity to support the region’s growing infrastructure needs, Dizon stressed.
“ASEAN cement markets face shared challenges, including excess regional production capacity, volatile energy costs, and increasingly demanding sustainability requirements. The Philippines will work closely with AFCM member countries to strengthen knowledge-sharing, promote technological innovation, and deepen regional cooperation,” he said.
Dizon said the Philippines aims to contribute to a more competitive, resilient, and sustainable ASEAN cement industry—one that supports infrastructure development, economic growth, and the region’s transition toward a lower-carbon future.
